The MPL 33rd National Open & girls Chess Championship 2023 started today at DAV Institute of Engineering & Technology (DAVIET), Jalandhar in which around 250 players from 25 states from all over India are participating. The tournament is being organised by District Chess Association, Jalandhar.

At the opening ceremony today, chief guest Bharat Singh Chauhan, Chairman FIDE Advisory Board & Vice president Asian chess Federation along with Mr. Muneesh Thapar, president PSCA and the All India Chess Federation office bearers, Mr. Bhavesh Patel Vice president, Dr. Vipnesh Bhardwaj Hony. secy, Mr. Atul Gupta Joint secy, Mr. Naresh Sharma Treasurer, Mr. Vinod Sharma vice president PSCA, Mr. Chetan Bansal Treasurer PSCA & Mr. Sanjeev Thakur Secy HP Chess inaugurated the tournament by making customary first move on top board.

The offlice bearers of the District Chess Association, Mr. Rajesh Duggal CEO, Mr. Shubham Duggal president, Mr. Sunil Jain senior vice president, Mr. Parag Bhasin Treasurer, Mr. Satish Malhotra Chairman Finance committee, Mr. Rohit Press secretary & the joint secretaries Mr. Anshul Kapania, Mr. Harsimran Singh & Mr. Raghav Malhotra also graced the occasion along with the distinguished guests.

In his inauguration speech, Mr. Chauhan praised the way District chess association, Jalandhar has done all the preparations for the national event. He said that he has a special attachment with the city as many high quality national level tournaments has been conducted here in the past also. He expressed hope that in future too, the game in the state will continue to flourish under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Muneesh Thapar.

Speaking regarding the start of the tournament, Mr. Thapar told that very positive response is seen among the participants as they seem very satisfied with the arrangements & the playing conditions at the venue. As PSCA has conducted many national level chess events at a good scale in different district of Punjab, now the association is ready to organize an Asian level tournament if allotted in future.

Also present on the occasion were International arbiters Mr. Amit Sharma & Mr. Varun Kumar, Ms. Shilpa Office secy PSCA, Mr. Dinesh Gera press secy PSCA, FIDE Arbiter Mr. Amit Sharma & senior national arbiters Mr. Sanjeev Sharma, Mr. Anurag Bhardwaj, Mr.Chandresh Bakshi, Mr.Kashish Sharma, Mr. Kirti Bhagat & Mr. Rohit Sharma.
